Alternative Medicine.....

When it comes to medical issues, I find myself fairly blessed. All my issues are small but annoying mostly.....

  • Like the arthritis in my hip that has been flaring up more lately.....
  • Like the allergies to just about any pollen, grass, dust mite or dust known to man.....
  • Like the annoying symptoms that come with being a woman getting older.....

BUT the most annoying is the recurring (WAY too often) vertigo I experience. I have researched it soooooo much I am kinda sick of looking for new information.....

My first vertigo attack was debilitating for 3, count em, 3 days...... I really WAS down for the count,. I couldn't walk without getting nauseous. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sit up. IT WAS UGLY.....About the only thing I could do was to lay flat with my eyes closed. Every time I opened them, the room would start spinning.....

Luckily I have only had 3-4 attacks that were THAT bad> Mostly I just have very annoying and very dizzy days.... ICK....

I KNOW, I KNOW.....land the plane Kim....... WHAT are you getting at????

All this chatter brings me to my last bout of the crazy dizzy vertigo. It has been annoying me for a week now and I decided it is time to look into something other than just taking what amounts to a prescription strength Dramamine.......

IN comes the thought of acupuncture.... YES, you read that right....ACUPUNCTURE....
AM I CRAZY??? Well, maybe a little but I started thinking it is time to look at alternative treatments for my vertigo symptoms.....What are YOUR thoughts????

I researched it and yes, there is acupuncture that can help..... it depends on symptoms where they would put the needles....guess it has something to do with nerves and flow and chi or whatever..... THIS is what scares me tho....
What is one of my points of need is in my face??? OH NO!!!! that part makes me nervous..

So here are a few questions for all of you....
  1. Anyone else have vertigo??? If so, what works for you???
  2. Anyone else ever tried acupuncture for ANYTHING??? If so, what did you think of it???
  3. Anyone have any other alternative medicine treatments to recommend????
I am really looking foward to hearing what everyone thinks...

Until next time.....

Kim I have only had one case of vertigo and it was a bad one but I have never had another one.I thought I was having the big one! My youngest daughter was with me and I told her to call 911 and she said that would be embarrassing! Kids!
I say try it because maybe it will work and you know the times you have them has increased. My prayers are with you whatever you decide.

Love you,
Bart

Good Morning Kim, Now this is going to sound funny, but we actually had acupuncture done for our cocker spaniel for a bulging disk. He couldn't turn his head to the right, raise it up, or look down. The specialist wanted to sedate him and do an MRI and surgery (to the tune of thousands of dollars) and Charlie (dog) had seizures. We had heard that anesthesia would likely increase them, so my girlfriend, Candace connected us with a vet that does it. 5 treatments and $50 each and his neck was good as new! Seriously, for the next 4 years of his life. It was amazing. Same friend has it done for various things and swears by it. I'm also thinking about it as well.

It works on opening up energy lines in the body. The theory behind pain, disease, etc is that it is trapped, or blocked energy (and unresolved emotions that are stuck) in the body. The acupuncture needles are placed in the body in places that correspond to the affected organs, joints, etc.

It is getting more and more attention in main stream medicine. I say give it a try. :-)

Another alternative treatment that is gaining some attention is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). I actually took a workshop on it and had some relief with a cyst on my wrist that a surgeon said I would have to live with. It also works along the meridian (Chi, energy) lines in the body and involves only a light tapping on particulars points around the face, upper body, and hand. It feels a little silly, but geeeezzzzzzzzzz :-) if it helps, I say it is better than flooding our bodies with synthetic chemicals.

My opinion on alternative (non-invasive) medicine is that God is Amazing. I believe that He provided ways for us to take care, and heal ourselves of most infirmities. He has provided everything else, why not healing?

And just as a curiosity, with everything that has been going on in your life right now, are you feeling a little mentally scattered? (I am and am having some mild vertigo, so I am curious about the mind, body, spirit connection).

I hope this doesn't all sound too strange... ~ Have a blessed day, Janet

I say go for it.

I had vertigo, off an on for three months, about nine years ago. I asked one of the Doc's at work about it and he said if it did not go away in 3 months..come and see him. Well, it did go away in three months exactly. I have a friend at work and she has experienced the same thing twice.

I was lucky because mine only came on with a sudden position change of my head and I was able to continue working. For instance, if I was typing at the computer then turned to look at my patient..it was all over..I could hardly stand up straight. In fact, the first time I had it I thought I was having a stroke.

As far as the acupuncture goes, why not give it a try. If it works you have gained so much without filling your body with unnatural chemicals. Good luck and keep us posted.

i have to admit I LOVE acupuncture! It creates a wonderful relaxed feeling during and after. you will feel the occasional small sting but no worse than that. AND best of all, it works!
